TRIP INFORMATION AND EQUIPMENT LIST

Our trip last year to the Medfield Sportsman’s Club was a huge success.  So, we’re planning a similar trip this year.   We’ll focus on two themes for this year’s trip:  1.)  An opportunity to get experience backpacking and 2.)  A chance to learn the fundamentals of trap shooting.

This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy some time outdoors.  Since there are varying interests in backpacking, we’ll be offering two options for the day.  The first option will be to participate in a six-mile hike on back roads and trails in Medfield and Millis.  The second option is a shorter hike, probably around two – three miles.

Plan on leaving the scout shed at different times for the two groups on Saturday morning (3/13).  Departure time for the six-mile participants will be at 7:00am; and for the three-mile hikers, we’ll be leaving at 9:00.  The two groups should arrive at the Sportsman’s Club by lunchtime. After we set up, the Club will teach us the basics of trap shooting.

Other Essentials:

a)      Parental approval form must be on file.

b)      Bring a sack lunch for Saturday

c)      Activity fee is $15, due March 4

Departure:  Saturday, March 13 at the Scout Shed

7:00am for the Six-Mile Hike Participants

     9:00am, Scout Shed, Legion Hall

Pick Up: Sunday, March 14, 1:00pm, Scout Shed, Legion Hall

Weather and Preparation:

Unfortunately, spring doesn’t start until the following weekend and we should expect that the weather will be cold.  Remember what you have learned about cold weather camping:  dress in layers, remove sweaty or wet clothing prior to bedding down, bring changes of dry, warm clothes, cover exposed skin, and if you get cold, take immediate corrective action. Be prepared for wet and cold weather. I have attached a checklist to provide guidance on what to bring.

Since we’ll be hiking into and out of the Sportsman’s Club, hiking boots or equivalent footwear will be necessary.   As with most camping trips, Scout uniforms will not be required.  All Scouts should bring their Scout Handbook. A personal equipment checklist as follows:
