BLOOD DRIVE HELP (October 23, UCC Medfield)

Coordinator: Mrs. Sue Schaub, 359- XXXX.

Service hours.  The United Church of Christ in Medfield is sponsoring the next Red Cross Blood Drive.  They are looking for help at the snack table, greeting people and in the babysitting room.  The Blood Drive runs from 1-7 p.m., although you aren’t expected to help until after school!  Sign up at the next meeting or call Mrs. Schaub.  Wear your Class A uniform.

HIGH ADVENTURE FUNDRAISING (October 25-26)

Coordinator: Mrs. Patti Schwartz,  359- XXXX.

Sell drinks and snacks at the soccer games.  We sold over  $500 last weekend.  Sign up at the next few meetings for a time slot between 8:30 and 4:30 on Saturday and 12:30 to 4:30 on Sunday.

OPERATION PIE BAKE: (November 16)

The Schwartz’s House, 3 Stuart Street

Coordinator: Mrs. Patti Schwartz, Service and Good Turn Coordinator, 359- XXXX

Service hours.  For the past eight years, under the direction of Mrs. Patti Schwartz, Troop 89 Scouts have baked hundreds of Thanksgiving pies for the Medfield Food Cupboard.  The organizers of the Food Cupboard have been delighted with what is now a Troop 89 tradition.  Sign up for a one hour shift during our regular meetings or contact Mrs. Schwartz.

EAGLE COURT OF HONOR (November 23, 2 p.m., St. Edwards)

Coordinator: Mrs. Patti Schwartz, Advancement Chair, 359- XXXX.

Congratulations to Andrew McGowen for successfully completing the rigorous Eagle Scout requirements. Troop 89 will honor Andrew at an Eagle Court of Honor held on November 23rd. The troop leadership hopes all Scouts and their families will be able to attend this very important ceremony.

CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION (January 3 and 10)

Coordinator: Mr. Charlie Malacaria, Christmas Tree Collection Coordinator, 359- XXXX.

This is our one BIG fundraiser that supports the troop for the whole year!  We need drivers with Class 3 hitches and/or trucks to help on either day.  Every parent who has a truck or hitch helps the Troop make a bigger profit, instead of our paying U-Haul. Please call Mr. Charlie Malacaria (359- XXXX) as soon as possible if you can have a vehicle we may use.  If  you want to help during the collections, but don’t have a truck/hitch, that is also welcome.  Also, the troop does a mailing to previous customers so they may setup their pick-up date by mail/phone.  However, some don’t RSVP, so we need a few parents to make follow-up phone calls – this is the easiest sales job you’ll ever have!  Again, please call Mr. Malacaria to volunteer.  Thanks!

PHILMONT 2004 (July 14-28)

Coordinator: Mr. Jerry Bowling, Assistant Scoutmaster 242- XXXX.

The 2003 Council trip traveled to Philmont with two empty spaces.  Even though all the slots were full on the initial offering, there were not enough people on the waiting list to fill all the slots created by cancellations.  If you are still interested in Philmont and missed the initial sign up you can still reserve a place on the waiting list by sending your name and a fully refundable (if you do not go) $50 check to Council.  The coordinator at council for Philmont is Myron Rusk.  Just make your check out to The Boy Scouts of America.

For those already signed up, the next payment of $250 is due to Joe Shea by 16 October.  I am still working on the transportation to Miami or Ft Lauderdale so I cannot quote a final cost yet.

GENERAL NOTES

§         From now on, all trip fees are due at the meeting 2 weeks prior to the trip.  We are trying to eliminate last minute cancellations and additions because this makes it very hard for the Scouts to plan for food, activities, etc; as well as making it difficult for the trip coordinator to schedule adults for driving/participation.

§         Planning ahead for next year – our week at Squanto will be August 1-7.
