MassJam ’03

Barnstable Fairgrounds

Falmouth, MA

October 11 – 13, 2003

TRIP INFORMATION AND EQUIPMENT LIST

The MassJam promises to be an exciting and memorable event this year. We expect close to 1,000 scouts from almost every Council in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  We are planning on leaving Saturday morning (10/11) at 7:00am. In addition, and most importantly, we need drivers!!!  We expect to have over 40 scouts attending this year and we’d love to have one way, round trip, or “stay with us all weekend” drivers.  We promise you’ll have a great time.  Please call me at 359- XXXX to volunteer.

Part of the experience of attending MassJam is troop participation in different events offered during the weekend.  Following is a quick description of some of the different team-based activities:

-         First Aid Event – where the patrol will be asked to demonstrate four acts of first aid at the First Class Scout level

-         Archery & Air Rifle Events – the patrol will be challenged for their collective marksmanship

-         Bridge Building Event – Where the patrol will be asked to build a bridge without rope

-         Challenge Wall – traverse a 10’ high by 24’ long wall

-         Midway – Visit the Midway at the Barnstable Fairgrounds where you’ll have access to a variety of exhibits and demonstrations from environmental organizations, military units, and Scouting and recreational groups.

Departure:  we will meet at 7:00 am on Saturday at the Scout Shed behind the Legion Hall.  Make sure to eat breakfast before the trip as no stop is scheduled.

Return: we will return at 12:00 Noon on Monday (10/13) at the Scout Shed.

Other essentials:

a)      It’s suggested that we pre-order our MassJam Souvenirs prior to the jamboree.  We will have a sign-up sheet available at the scout meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11.  Please sign up if you’d like to order any souvenirs.

b)      Parental approval form and troop medical form must be on file

c)      Activity fee is $25 per scout, due October 2.
