JUNE, JULY, AUGUST 2000

The 2000 summer season will bring a few changes to the traditional Troop 89 summer schedule.  Troop 89 will attend Week 5 at Camp Squanto in late July/early August this year.  Our White Mountains backpacking hike is scheduled for July (it has been in August in previous years).  The Troop 89 Court of Honor and Family Dinner will be held outdoors at Rocky Woods for a change in June, and a Swim Night geared specifically for aquatics advancement will be held in June as well.  One June activity that is quickly becoming a Troop 89 tradition is the Whitewater Rafting Trip down the Kennebec River in Maine - a Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) event.

Congratulations to Andrew Greenaway and Eric Gryska for successfully completing the rigorous Eagle Scout requirements.  Troop 89 will honor both Andrew and Eric at an Eagle Court of Honor held on the nineteenth of June.  Naturally, we hope all Scouts and their families will be able to attend this very important ceremony.

Adults and older Scouts are reminded that our Scouthouse host, the Medfield State Hospital, has requested all drivers to abide by the 15 MPH speed limit posted throughout the campus.  Also, please be sure to park your car at designated parking spots only; curbside parking is not permitted except for loading and unloading equipment.  Thanks for your cooperation.

EAGLE COURT OF HONOR;

ANDREW GREENAWAY, EAGLE SCOUT

ERIC GRYSKA, EAGLE SCOUT

United Church of Christ, Medfield

19 June 2000, 7:30 PM

Coordinator:        Mrs. Jane Lomax, Assistant Scoutmaster, 359-XXXX,

RSVP:                     Mr. Steve Fernandes, Troop Committee Chairperson, 359-XXXX.

ALL SCOUTS REPORT TO THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN FULL UNIFORM AT 6:30 PM.

Congratulations to Andrew Greenaway and Eric Gryska for their outstanding achievement of earning the rank of Eagle Scout.  As is the traditional custom, members and friends of Troop 89 will gather to formally present this prestigious award to Andrew and Eric.  The Eagle Scout rank is by no means an easy accomplishment, and it is only right that all of Andrew’s and Eric’s brother Scouts are present with them during this special ceremony - attendance is considered mandatory for all Scouts.  We also highly encourage all Scout families to attend this memorable event.  Refreshments will be served immediately after the ceremony.

TROOP 89 T-SHIRTS

This will be the first of the two ordeal weekends offered during 2000; the other is tentatively scheduled for 15-17 September 2000.  All O.A. Ordeal candidates who are tapped out during Summer Camp must attend at least one of these weekends to complete their O.A. membership.  All previous O.A. Ordeal members are encouraged to pursue their Brotherhood during one of these weekends as well.  Finally, all Brotherhood members are reminded that cheerful service to the O.A. does not end upon achieving the Brotherhood honor, and all Troop 89 Arrowmen should consider joining their fellow Scouts at the Ordeal Weekend(s).

Troop 89 warmly welcomes Mr. Jeff Rahn to the position of Assistant Scoutmaster.  Mr. Steven Fernandes will be stepping down as Troop Committee Chairperson, and Mrs. Louise Kazanjian will end her role as the Troop Publicity Coordinator this summer.  Both Mr. Fernandes and Mrs. Kazanjian have supported Troop 89 in these and other capacities for many years, and the troop leadership extends its deep appreciation to both of them.  Mr. Mike Short will act as the new Committee Chairperson, and Mrs. Robin Devereux has volunteered to handle troop publicity matters.  Thanks again to all our volunteers - past and present!

Troop 89 is a strong troop with a proud tradition, but with many challenges ahead.  As always, your commitment today ensures a bright future for Troop 89 tomorrow.  Have a great summer!
