TROOP 89, MEDFIELD
1999 SUMMER CAMP

Dear Troop 89 Scout and parent:

As you know, Troop 89 will once again be attending summer camp at Camp Squanto in Plymouth this year from Sunday, 11 July 1999 through Saturday, 17 July 1999. Troop 89 has traditionally maintained a strong presence at summer camp, and we hope this year will be no exception.

Summer camp provides the greatest opportunity for advancement all year. New Scouts can quickly jump-start their Scouting careers, while veteran Scouts, in addition to continuing their own advancement, will gain valuable leadership experience. Most of all, summer camp affords an atmosphere of camaraderie, teamwork, and fellowship. We live, work, and compete together as a troop and have a lot of fun along the way.

At this point, at least three adults have expressed interest in attending the entire week. While we certainly do not expect most adults to dedicate seven full days, we do appreciate additional adult support staggered throughout the week. The ultimate importance of this, of course, will depend directly upon the total number of Scouts attending camp. Please consider joining us.

The total cost for the week is $195.00 per Scout. This is $10.00 more than last year’s fee. The full $195.00 per Scout payment is required by the Wednesday, 5 May 1999, Scout meeting. Please write checks to Troop 89, BSA. An additional $15.00 per Scout late fee must be charged after this deadline. While adults usually stay free of charge, we may need to collect a minimal meal fee from visiting adults if we have a large number of adults at camp. In the past, Troop 89 has provided partial financial assistance to families who find it difficult to afford summer camp. All inquiries regarding such may be confidentially addressed to the Troop Committee by contacting Mr. Steve Fernandes, Troop Committee Chairperson, at 359-8932.

There is strength in numbers. In the past, Troop 89 has been complimented as being an "indicator troop" partially due to the large number of Troop 89 Scouts attending summer camp. We hope that each Scout, along with his parents, will seriously consider the benefits of summer camp and will choose to join us at Camp Squanto this year.
